EAT PRAY LOVE
(Rated:PG-13 - Runs:2 Hrs 20 - Showing:Dreamland)
Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having - a husband, a house, a successful career - yet like so many others, she found herself lost, confused, and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali. Based on the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert.

I AM LOVE
(Rated:R - Runs:2 Hrs 10 - Showing:City)
Did she understand when she married her husband what sort of family she was joining? She knew they were rich Italian aristocrats, operators of textile mills in Milan. But did she understand that as a wife from Russia, she would serve and provide and even be loved, but would never truly be a member? When we see Emma (Tilda Swinton) she is preparing the Recchi house for the birthday party of the patriarch. She seems to relate more as a caterer than as a hostess. At the head of the table is the grand old Edoardo (Gabriele Ferzetti). Among those gathered are his son and her husband, Tancredi (Pippo Delbono). The old man makes an unexpected announcement: He is retiring, and putting Tancredi in charge. But not Tancredi alone. His grandson, their son, Edo (Flavio Parenti) also will share the responsibility.
Is Emma filled with joy? Her husband and son will inherit the dynasty? She is so calm and expert, it's hard to say. Tilda Swinton is a daring actress who doesn't project emotions so much as embody them. I Am Love provides an ideal role for her, in that her actions speak instead of words.-Roger Ebert

NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS
(Rated:PG - Runs:2 Hrs - Showing:Star)
Nanny McPhee Returns is a joy to behold, an oasis of originality and wit in a genre that is frequently bereft of both. Originally called Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang when it came out internationally a few months ago, it's smart, sophisticated, and sentimental, asking its underage audience to deal with subjects that your standard Hollywood fare would never dare discuss. Sure, it's still a bit too twee for its own good and goes slightly overboard with its kooky British take on humorous whimsy, but despite a few minor flaws, it's a major, magical triumph.
With her husband (Ewan McGregor) off to war and her shiftless brother-in-law Phil (Rhys Ifans) trying to sell the family farm out from under her, poor Isabel Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal) has her work cut out for her. The last thing she needs is to care for her cocky nephew Cyril (Eros Vlahos) and snotty niece Celia (Rosie Taylor-Ritson). But London is under the Blitz, and the children need a remote place in the country to keep them safe. They join the other Green children -- the well-meaning Norman (Asa Butterfield), his tomboyish sister Megsie (Lil Woods) and the kindhearted Vincent (Oscar Steer) -- and initially, they do not get along.
As soon as the city kids arrive, along comes Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson), a spotty old cow with a unibrow, big earlobes, crooked teeth, and a couple of sizable moles on her face. She also has an enchanted cane that allows her to teach misbehaving brats a lesson or two in manners and proper deportment. Of course, Cyril, Celia, Norman, Megsie, and Vincent are reluctant to curb their destructive actions. With Phil flitting around the fringes trying to steal the property and a harvest to bring in, Mrs. Green will need the help of all her charges. It will be up to Nanny McPhee to make sure their contributions are positive -- and productive.

RAMONA & BEEZUS
(Rated:G - Runs:1 Hr 55 - Showing:City)
Kids who started reading anytime between the 1950s and today may know the books of Beverly Cleary, and at 94, she's still writing. Her books are set on Klickitat Street in Portland, Ore., a real street not far from her childhood home; she must have filed it away for future reference.
On that street, those readers will know, live a 9-year-old girl named Ramona, her 15-year-old sister Beatrice, their parents Robert and Dorothy, their Aunt Bea, and Beezus and Ramona's friend Henry Huggins. Life has stayed lively for these characters for 60 years because of the inexhaustible Ramona, who gets up to so much mischief that I think she must have indirectly inspired the '50s sitcom "Leave It to Beaver."
It's not that Ramona (Joey King), the heroine of "Ramona and Beezus," is a bad girl. Winningly played by King, no one can look more innocent, and indeed even think herself more innocent. She's a virtuoso of the "but I was only standing here!" routine. Yet every day in an astonishing number of ways she disrupts her family more than that insurgent Labrador in "Marley & Me." Considering that the story revolves around her father losing his job, I don't even want to think about the bills for property damage.
Without ever meaning to, of course, Ramona survives as chaos erupts around her, and in her daydreams, she dangles by precarious handholds over a roaring gorge, for starters. She was causing mischief even when she was too young to know better: she saddled her sister Beatrice with the hated nickname Beezus. "Ramona and Beezus" is a sweet salute. (Roger Ebert)
